When to perform the inspection

Complete the checklist after the tool, compressor, and hose are staged at the launch area but before connecting final air supply and beginning the bore.

Repeat relevant items if conditions change during the workday — hose rerouting, compressor swap, pit modification, weather change, or crew turnover may invalidate an earlier review.

Do not treat a checklist completed at the shop or during transport as a substitute for jobsite review at the launch point.

Equipment visual review

Confirm tool identity matches the planned model for the crossing. Verify that external condition is acceptable — no visible cracks, significant dents, damaged threads, or missing identification labels.

Review the nose section and body for contamination at connection areas. Confirm externally accessible fasteners and handling points appear secure without attempting internal disassembly.

Air supply visual review
